Couples Project
I started it by chance photographing 2 friends from the dance community who happened to be dating at the time. Going through the images, I realized there’s a depth that their relationship added to the images. The pictures felt both vulnerable and strong, they felt honest and revealing in a way posed images rarely do. I became quite obsessed with photographing couples - I would ask immediately if I met someone interesting-looking if they wanted to collaborate on the project with me. The project morphed into an exploration of how trust and intimacy shows up in our bodies. Whenever I shoot it, I make sure to create a safe space so my models can focus on each other and fully relax. I outline the purpose of the project and let them interpret it from their perspective, making them true contributors and collaborators in the process and capturing what they create. While there are some general similarities, no 2 couples have created a similar energy on set. I make sure to work with a lot of people from underrepresented communities since their beauty and authenticity deserves to get more spotlight than it currently has. The resulting images are a physical manifestation of ephemeral connection, trust and love.
